A Climate March for peace and Climate action!

Articles 05 Oct 2025

Today, 5 October, the Climate March organised by the CLIMATE COALITION was held in Brussels, with around a hundred associations and Belgian and European green parties taking part. Approximately 30,000 people participated. The SNCB reinforced its train service (here we have a centre-right government... Salvini would have done the same, wouldn't he????).

The photos show some images of this cheerful afternoon; you can see me with Samuel Cogolati, Co-President of Ecolo, and Benedetta de Marte, Secretary General of the European Green Party...

Such a large demonstration was possible because the associative fabric after the climate movement and COVID did not weaken as it did in... In the placards, in the short speeches, in the slogans chanted, the correspondence between the mobilisation for Gaza and that for the climate often returned.

In a global context marked by growing wars and conflicts, violence not only devastates human lives, but also hinders the fight against climate change. The military sector generates about 5.5% of global emissions – if it were a country, it would be the fourth largest emitter in the world. NATO's rearmament could add up to 194 million tonnes of greenhouse gases per year, while the war in Gaza has already produced more CO₂ in 15 months than over a hundred countries. The logic of war, reinforced by Trump's attack on climate policies and that of the right wing, starting with Meloni and Orban, therefore represents a direct threat to the fight against climate change and to a new decentralised economic and energy system based on renewable energy storage and energy efficiency. It is also a huge obstacle to the necessary global dialogue. this is why there is a direct link between climate marches, marches in solidarity with the Palestinians, but also efforts to help Ukraine, and I would like to mention here the mission of 110 activists who have been in Kyiv and Kharkiv in recent days... including @paolobergamaschi and Marco Bentivogli.
